MANILA, Philippines - The Taguig City government is set to host the 2009 Cinemanila International Film Festival at the Fort Bonifacio Global City this October.
Cinemanila is an annual exposition of the best of world cinema to the Philippines and showcase the best Filipino films to the rest of the world, according to its organizers.
It will run from Oct. 15 to 25, and will also have filmmaking workshops and master classes.
Taguig Mayor Sigfrido Tiñga said the international film festival will play a major role in promoting arts and culture in the city by exposing the residents to world-class international and local movies.
Considered as the “Sundance Film Festival of Asia,” Cinemanila has promoted the best of Filipino films to world cinema audiences and has championed the development of new and independent Filipino filmmakers.
For this year’s edition, Cinemanila also launched the Machinima Film Festival, a new movement in filmmaking that features real-time animation made into film through artificial intelligence and digital puppetry.
Since its inception in 1999, the film festival has brought to the country movie industry veterans such as Chris Doyle, Indonesian actress and Cannes jury member Christine Hakim, Fil-Am actors Tia Carrere and Lou Diamond Phillips, and American cult icon Quentin Tarantino.
